Your reality holds the key to changing the world

Musashino University Data Science (MUDS) employs the revolutionary concept "From Local Insights towards Global Impact," starting from localized challenges in natural and social environments worldwide and leading to planet-scale problem solving. Reality means the practical, real-world challenges right in front of you. The fact that you've noticed these challenges means you've already taken the first step toward conducting world-class research at MUDS. Tokyo's packed trains, rural vacant housing problems, shuttered shopping streets—these are region-specific realities you face daily, yet in truth, many regions across the globe are grappling with similar situations. The insights you gain from the real challenges you're experiencing in your current environment will develop into solutions for regions worldwide facing the same struggles.

At the heart of this education is "research-experience-linked learning." Students face localized challenges in their actual environments while creatively tackling problems using data science knowledge, techniques, and methodologies through remote educational systems. International and domestic students connect through communication-based educational systems, taking on both internationally global challenges and localized issues occurring worldwide from the latter half of their first year through their third year. The fusion of practical research activities in the field and the deepening of research outcome utilization and dissemination methods on campus creates truly global talent.

At the Musashino University Faculty of Data Science, we promise you'll compete on a global stage from day one. In the "Future Creation Project" starting from the first year, you set your own research theme and present before more than 20 companies. The track record of 193 academic presentations by undergraduate students (including 38 at peer-reviewed international conferences) demonstrates the seriousness of this education. Furthermore, we're planning to establish the School of International Data Science (MIDS) in the Distance Learning Division in April 2026, providing even more diverse learning opportunities.

The Asia AI Institute continues to lead the frontlines of industry-academia and international collaboration, realizing its grand vision to "contribute to the advancement of global AI scientific research and human development through cooperation among Japan, Asia, and Europe." Partnerships with leading companies aren't merely job placement support. They're fields where you challenge real societal issues while still enrolled, growing as professionals.

We've witnessed countless moments when local insights generate global impact. With researchers from Thailand, Indonesia, Finland, and Egypt, and collaborations with over 15 universities worldwide, your possibilities expand infinitely. Data science research in seminar format, utilization of international information sources and cutting-edge technology, and field problem-solving processes—all of these guide you to become a world-class researcher.

Changing the world while rooted in your community—this isn't a fairy tale. It's the clear path to your future that Musashino University Data Science (MUDS) provides.

International Faculty of Data Science (Scheduled to Establish in April, 2026)

The International Faculty of Data Science serves as an academic hub that provides new solution methodologies through data science for the increasingly complex social and natural environmental challenges on a global scale. Data science is gaining attention as a new academic field that enables the overview, sharing, analysis, clarification, discovery, and improvement of issues in information space. In the industrial sector, the development of human resources with advanced application capabilities utilizing data science expertise and new technologies has become essential for corporate innovation creation.

Our faculty develops next-generation data scientists who acquire cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) knowledge and skills, analyze massive data (big data) collected in various social contexts, and create new businesses that thrive in global society.

  • Faculty of Data Science

    Faculty of Data Science

The Faculty of Data Science serves as an educational and research hub for data science, a discipline that opens new frontiers for humanity by utilizing vast accumulated information to achieve "knowledge creation." In today's society, it has become possible to create innovative services and values that were previously unimaginable by leveraging diverse data generated across all domains, including web search and electronic payment history data, photos and video content uploaded to social media, and sensor data collected from IoT devices.

Our faculty comprehensively develops analytical skills to accurately interpret data based on statistical and mathematical foundations, creativity to generate new value from data using AI and machine learning technologies, and business acumen to spread that value throughout society and drive innovation, thereby producing next-generation data scientists.

  • Graduate School of Data Science

    Graduate School of Data Science

The Graduate School of Data Science is a hub for developing highly specialized professionals in the data science field, following Japan's first private Data Science Faculty in 2019, with the Master's program launched in April 2021 and Doctoral program in April 2022. Led by Professor Yasushi Kiyoki, former Chair of Keio University's Graduate School of Media and Governance, the school develops cutting-edge research and education based on three main pillars: "Data Science Technology," "Data Science Applications," and "Social Innovation."

Our graduate school constructs advanced education and research systems through eight research projects, based on interdisciplinary research and international collaboration. We provide cutting-edge learning that integrates theory and practice through foundational and specialized courses, international internships, and research guidance from the first year. Based on Japan's "AI Strategy 2019," we develop data science professionals who become international leaders in global society, aiming to produce world-class top-tier talent.

  • Asia AI Institute

    Asia AI Institute

The Asia AI Institute at Musashino University was established as a base for Artificial Intelligence Technologies (AIT) with the aim of bringing innovation to global society through research outcomes. The Institute provides a platform to create collaborative activities among organizations across Asia and the world, including industry, businesses, government, and academia.

With the vision of "collaborating across Japan, Asia, and Europe to contribute to the advancement of global AI scientific research and human development," the Institute was launched at the establishment of the Faculty of Data Science as a research institution conducting advanced international AI research. It aims to serve as a hub for leading AI research that contributes to the world through collaboration among research institutions, researchers, government agencies, and companies across Japan, Asia, and Europe.
