From Local Insights towards Global Impact
Your reality holds the key to changing the world
Musashino University Data Science (MUDS) employs the revolutionary concept "From Local Insights towards Global Impact," starting from localized challenges in natural and social environments worldwide and leading to planet-scale problem solving. Reality means the practical, real-world challenges right in front of you. The fact that you've noticed these challenges means you've already taken the first step toward conducting world-class research at MUDS. Tokyo's packed trains, rural vacant housing problems, shuttered shopping streets—these are region-specific realities you face daily, yet in truth, many regions across the globe are grappling with similar situations. The insights you gain from the real challenges you're experiencing in your current environment will develop into solutions for regions worldwide facing the same struggles.
At the heart of this education is "research-experience-linked learning." Students face localized challenges in their actual environments while creatively tackling problems using data science knowledge, techniques, and methodologies through remote educational systems. International and domestic students connect through communication-based educational systems, taking on both internationally global challenges and localized issues occurring worldwide from the latter half of their first year through their third year. The fusion of practical research activities in the field and the deepening of research outcome utilization and dissemination methods on campus creates truly global talent.
At the Musashino University Faculty of Data Science, we promise you'll compete on a global stage from day one. In the "Future Creation Project" starting from the first year, you set your own research theme and present before more than 20 companies. The track record of 193 academic presentations by undergraduate students (including 38 at peer-reviewed international conferences) demonstrates the seriousness of this education. Furthermore, we're planning to establish the School of International Data Science (MIDS) in the Distance Learning Division in April 2026, providing even more diverse learning opportunities.
The Asia AI Institute continues to lead the frontlines of industry-academia and international collaboration, realizing its grand vision to "contribute to the advancement of global AI scientific research and human development through cooperation among Japan, Asia, and Europe." Partnerships with leading companies aren't merely job placement support. They're fields where you challenge real societal issues while still enrolled, growing as professionals.
We've witnessed countless moments when local insights generate global impact. With researchers from Thailand, Indonesia, Finland, and Egypt, and collaborations with over 15 universities worldwide, your possibilities expand infinitely. Data science research in seminar format, utilization of international information sources and cutting-edge technology, and field problem-solving processes—all of these guide you to become a world-class researcher.
Changing the world while rooted in your community—this isn't a fairy tale. It's the clear path to your future that Musashino University Data Science (MUDS) provides.
