Musashino University Asia AI Institute Hosts Workshop at IEEE IES 2025 International Conference in Indonesia

Sharing Latest AI Research Results with Researchers and Graduate Students Worldwide

The Asia AI Institute (AAII) of Musashino University hosted the "Workshop on Artificial Intelligence & 5D World Map System" at the IEEE International Electronics Symposium 2025 (IES 2025), being held from August 5-7 in Surabaya, Indonesia.

At the opening of the conference, Musashino University faculty members were introduced on stage in recognition of their contributions to the IEEE IES research community, demonstrating the international recognition of their research activities.

Conference Overview

IES 2025 was held in a hybrid format at DoubleTree by Hilton Surabaya under the theme "Intelligent Connectivity: Enabling Green ICT in Emerging Technology Services for Sustainable Living."

Workshop Features

The workshop, held on August 7 from 13:00 to 14:30, shared AAII's latest research results with researchers and graduate students from around the world. This workshop was realized through the cooperation of Prof. Aliridho Barakbah, former Dean of PENS (Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya), who is a member of the research community, building on the Summer School initiatives of the "European and Japanese Conference on Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases (EJC)" that Prof. Yasushi Kiyoki, Dean of the Faculty of Data Science, has been conducting for many years.

Presenters and Research Content

The following researchers presented their latest research findings at the workshop:

  • Prof. Yasushi Kiyoki (Dean and Professor, Faculty of Data Science, Musashino University)

  • Prof. Virach Sornlertlamvanich (Thammasat University & Musashino University)

  • Assoc. Prof. Shiori Sasaki (Musashino University)

  • Dr. Wresti Anggayasti (Brawijaya University, Indonesia)

  • Assoc. Prof. Yusuke Takahashi (Musashino University)

  • Prasetyo Wibowo (Lecturer, Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya)

Call for International Collaboration and Student Recruitment at MUDS

During the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Takahashi presented "Invitation to MUDS - Join Our International Data Science Community," explaining international joint research opportunities and student recruitment at MUDS with the following content:

  1. Call-for-collaborations: Let's conduct research together w/ MUDS!

  2. Call-for-students: Master's & Doctoral degrees at MUDS.

He particularly addressed participants with "What is your passion?" and emphasized that "specialists in {your passion/expertise} x AI and Data Science interdisciplinary fields are absent in almost all fields worldwide. There are opportunities similar to those during the Internet boom in its early days," highlighting how individuals can significantly create career opportunities.

Comments from Dean Kiyoki

Dean Kiyoki commented on this initiative:

"Opportunities like this are extremely important and valuable for MUDS. We have been implementing EJC Summer Schools in countries around the world through discussions with Prof. Hannu Jaakola of Tampere University of Technology and others, creating an open space that invites many people worldwide, including young students, to our research community. We hold these events free of charge so that students who will lead the future research community can experience cutting-edge research and be encouraged about opportunities in the research world. This time, with the cooperation of Prof. Aliridho Barakbah and others, over one hundred people participated, centered on students in Surabaya, Indonesia, including researchers from around the world attending IES.

Data science establishes itself as an academic field distinct from computer science because it can give meaning to data and computational results in society, the real world, and nature. Therefore, it is important for people from diverse fields, interests, and cultures to participate in MUDS.

We will continue to actively utilize such opportunities to expand the global research community surrounding MUDS and advance our research."

Comments from Workshop Moderator

Prasetyo Wibowo, a lecturer at PENS who served as the moderator of this workshop, commented: "I am grateful to everyone involved for making such a valuable opportunity possible. As someone who is both a lecturer at PENS and a doctoral student at Musashino University's graduate school, I hope that more people like me can become bridges for international research development through MUDS."

Expansion of International Collaboration

This workshop was held as part of the international collaboration activities promoted by the Asia AI Institute of Musashino University. Under the vision of "contributing to the advancement of AI scientific research and human development worldwide through collaboration between Japan, Asia, and Europe," AAII is deepening partnerships with research institutions around the world.

Additionally, two graduate students from Musashino University also presented their research at this international conference. Comments from these two students will be featured in a separate article.
