シリコンバレーでスタートアップの起業中のソフトウェアエンジニア・起業家の 小林聡汰（こばやし そうた） さんをお迎えし、Fireside Chat を開催します。AI エージェントが当たり前になる時代に、人間の「自分で考える力」や主体性をどう守り、どう拡張していくのか。現場でプロダクトをつくりながら問いに向き合う小林さんと、少人数でじっくり語り合う一時間です。

登壇者プロフィール：小林聡汰（Sota Kobayashi）

Founder / Software Engineer。UC Berkeley でコンピュータサイエンスの学士号（BA）を取得後、シリコンバレーを拠点に製造業向けの AI システムを手がけてきたソフトウェアエンジニア・起業家です。現在はDeNA が運営する起業家育成プログラム DelightX の Cohort 2 に参加し、シリコンバレーで自身のスタートアップの立ち上げ、AI と人間の関係性を再構築し、人間の新たな可能性を広げることを目指しています。

取り組んでいること

小林さんが取り組んでいるのは、パーソナルAIエージェントと、エージェントネイティブなサービスが自然につながるための仕組みづくりです。今後、Webサービスや店舗、行政、企業システムは人間だけでなくエージェントによっても運営されていくと考えています。一方で、個人や企業の文脈、プロフィール、意図、履歴のような情報を、エージェント同士がスムーズに受け渡す方法はまだ十分に整っていません。

そこで関心を持っているのが、「人やモノにひもづいたコンテキスト」を、必要な相手に、必要な形で渡せる仕組みです。個人のエージェントが、エージェントネイティブなサービスに自分の状況を伝えたり、逆にサービス側から個人に必要な情報を返したりする。そのやり取りを、メールアドレスやアカウント交換ではなく、エージェント同士の関係性として扱えるようにしたいと考えています。イメージとしては、エージェントの電話帳のようなものです。

『攻殻機動隊』や『ロックマンエグゼ』のように、人の周りにさまざまな知的な存在がいて、それぞれがサービスやモノ、場所、組織と結びついている世界観も、この構想の背景にあります。ただしこれは人間を置き去りにするものではなく、人間を非本質的な作業から解放し、人間の主体性を高め、人間を拡張する方向を目指しています。単にAIに作業を代行させるのではなく、人がよりよく考え、選び、関係をつくるために、エージェントが前提となる時代のサービスのあり方を再設計しようとしています。

これまでの経歴（抜粋）

• Woven by Toyota / ソフトウェアエンジニア（2025年9月–2026年2月）― 製造工場の全工程を対象としたデジタルツイン・ソリューションに従事。トヨタの未来都市 Woven City で使われているのと同じ技術を、既存産業に持ち込む取り組み。クライアントの要件定義からデータパイプライン設計、システム実装まで、ソフトウェアエンジニアリングとソリューションアーキテクチャの橋渡し役を担当。

• UnitX / ソフトウェアエンジニア（2022年7月–2025年5月、米カリフォルニア州サンタクララ）― Django と React を用いた AI ビジョン検査プラットフォームのフルスタック開発をリード。製造業の欠陥検出向けに 2.5D 画像ワークフローを開発し、国際チームと協働。

• 国際文化会館/ 新渡戸リーダーシップ・プログラム フェロー（2025年8月–2026年3月）― 厳しい選考を経て選出された7か月のリーダーシップ・プログラム。プロジェクト推進のための分科会「Project Management Squad」を自ら立ち上げて主宰したほか、AI と人間の自律性に関するリサーチ、非エンジニア向けの AI ハンズオン・ワークショップなどに取り組む。

• 和から / 数学・統計・機械学習 講師（2019年–2021年）― 大学生・社会人への個別指導や企業研修、GMAT や統計検定、大学院入試対策などを担当。

[Invited Talk] Fireside Chat with Sota Kobayashi — Rethinking Human Agency in the Age of AI Agents

We are pleased to host a Fireside Chat with Sota Kobayashi, a software engineer and entrepreneur currently building a startup in Silicon Valley. In an era where AI agents are becoming the norm, how do we protect and expand our ability to think for ourselves and our sense of agency? Join us for an hour of in-depth, small-group conversation with Kobayashi-san, who wrestles with these questions while building products on the front lines.

This is a rare opportunity for students interested in data science, AI agents, entrepreneurship, studying abroad, and international careers. We warmly welcome your participation.

Event Details

Speaker Profile: Sota Kobayashi

Founder / Software Engineer. After earning a BA in Computer Science from UC Berkeley, he has worked as a software engineer and entrepreneur based in Silicon Valley, building AI systems for manufacturing. He is currently a member of Cohort 2 of DelightX, the entrepreneur development program run by DeNA. While building his own startup in Silicon Valley, he aims to rethink the relationship between AI and humans and to expand what people are capable of.

What he is working on

Kobayashi-san is building the infrastructure that lets personal AI agents and agent-native services connect naturally. He expects that going forward, web services, brick-and-mortar stores, government, and enterprise systems will be operated not only by people but also by agents. Yet the means for agents to smoothly hand off information — the context, profile, intent, and history of individuals and organizations — are still far from mature.

What interests him is a mechanism for passing “context tied to people and things” to the right party, in the right form. A personal agent conveys its owner’s situation to an agent-native service, and the service returns the information that person needs. He wants these exchanges to be handled not as swapping email addresses or accounts, but as relationships between agents — something like a phone book for agents.

As in Ghost in the Shell or Mega Man Battle Network (Rockman EXE), the worldview behind this vision is one in which a variety of intelligent beings surround a person, each tied to services, objects, places, and organizations. But this is not about leaving humans behind: it aims to free people from non-essential work, heighten human agency, and augment human capability. Rather than simply delegating tasks to AI, he is trying to redesign how services work in an era where agents are a given — so that people can think, choose, and build relationships better.

Selected experience

• Woven by Toyota / Software Engineer (Sep 2025 – Feb 2026) — Worked on an end-to-end digital twin solution spanning the entire manufacturing factory process — the same technology used in Toyota’s city of the future, Woven City — applied to bring future-city standards into existing industries. Served as a bridge between software engineering and solution architecture, from gathering client requirements to designing data pipelines and implementing systems.

• UnitX / Software Engineer (Jul 2022 – May 2025, Santa Clara, California, USA) — Led full-stack development of an AI vision inspection platform using Django and React. Developed 2.5D image workflows for manufacturing defect detection, collaborating with international teams.

• International House of Japan / Nitobe Leadership Program Fellow (Aug 2025 – Mar 2026) — A seven-month leadership program with a rigorous selection process. Launched and led a breakout group, “Project Management Squad,” to help members move their projects forward, and worked on research into AI and human autonomy as well as hands-on AI workshops for non-engineers.

• Wakara / Mathematics, Statistics & Machine Learning Instructor (2019 – 2021) — Private tutoring and corporate training for university students and working professionals, including preparation for the GMAT, the Japan Statistical Society Certificate, and graduate school entrance exams.

Why HAPPY DATA HOUR?

Bringing Silicon Valley culture to Ariake Campus. When I (Takahashi) was in Silicon Valley, I regularly participated in an event called "HAPPY DATA HOUR" held in San Francisco. It was a place where data scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, and VCs gathered to casually exchange information over 🍕 and 🍺.

This event went beyond mere networking and played a crucial role in fostering Silicon Valley's unique culture of "openly learning and helping each other." People would discuss technical challenges with strangers, share job opportunities, and seek feedback on new products. I realized that this cultural foundation is what keeps Silicon Valley as the holy land of innovation.

MIDS is not just another department, but aims to create a new ecosystem centered on data science × international collaboration × industry-academia partnership. Now, before the department's establishment, we want to nurture the community that will become the foundation of this culture. That's the motivation behind continuing HAPPY DATA HOUR.

シリコンバレーで体験したカルチャーを東京に。

僕（高橋）がシリコンバレーにいた頃、サンフランシスコで定期的に開催されていた「HAPPY DATA HOUR」というイベントに参加していました。データサイエンティスト、起業家、エンジニア、VCが集まり、🍕と🍺を片手にカジュアルに情報交換する場。

このイベントは単なるネットワーキングの場を超えて、シリコンバレー独特の「オープンに学び合い、助け合う」カルチャーを醸成する重要な役割を果たしていました。MIDSは単なる学部ではなく、データサイエンス×国際連携×産学連携を軸とした新しいエコシステムの創造を目指しています。

The International Data Science Department (MIDS) at Musashino University's Distance Learning Division is pleased to announce the 6th edition of our popular "HAPPY DATA HOUR" networking event.

For the first time in Japan, we're venturing outside campus to Another8 in Meguro, Tokyo! We're honored to welcome Mr. Kitamoto (Director) and Mr. Takami (CTO) of U-NEXT Holdings' newly established AI Startup Studio as our special guests, who will share insights from the frontlines of AI × startups.

When I (Takahashi) was in Silicon Valley, I regularly participated in "HAPPY DATA HOUR" events in San Francisco. Data scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, and VCs would gather to casually exchange information over 🍕 and 🍺.

These events went beyond mere networking to foster Silicon Valley's unique culture of "openly learning and helping each other." MIDS aims to create a new ecosystem centered on data science × international collaboration × industry-academia partnership—not just another academic department.
