4th MIDS Happy Data Hour 🍕🍺 - "HAPPY DATA HOUR goes international to Surabaya, Indonesia”

Hey everyone! The International Data Science Department (MIDS) at Musashino University's Distance Learning Division, scheduled to open in April 2026, hosts an open seminar called "HAPPY DATA HOUR" every second Friday of the month. For our third session, we're excited to create another space for new discoveries and connections with everyone interested in data science and AI.
Why HAPPY DATA HOUR?
Bringing Silicon Valley culture to Ariake Campus. When I (Takahashi) was in Silicon Valley, I regularly participated in an event called "HAPPY DATA HOUR" held in San Francisco. It was a place where data scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, and VCs gathered to casually exchange information over 🍕 and 🍺.
This event went beyond mere networking and played a crucial role in fostering Silicon Valley's unique culture of "openly learning and helping each other." People would discuss technical challenges with strangers, share job opportunities, and seek feedback on new products. I realized that this cultural foundation is what keeps Silicon Valley as the holy land of innovation.
MIDS is not just another department, but aims to create a new ecosystem centered on data science × international collaboration × industry-academia partnership. Now, before the department's establishment, we want to nurture the community that will become the foundation of this culture. That's the motivation behind continuing HAPPY DATA HOUR.
Theme and Content for the 3rd Session
Theme: "The Age of AI Democratization: Redefining Data Science Together"
With the advent of AI tools accessible to everyone like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, the landscape of data science has dramatically changed. Building on the 1st session's "Actionable Metrics vs Vanity Metrics" and the 2nd session's "From Data to Action," this time we'll tackle the fundamental question: "What is a data scientist in the AI era?"

Halo semua! Fakultas Ilmu Data Internasional (MIDS) di Divisi Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh Universitas Musashino, yang direncanakan akan dibuka pada April 2026, mengadakan seminar terbuka "HAPPY DATA HOUR" setiap Jumat kedua setiap bulan. Membawa budaya Silicon Valley ke seluruh dunia. Ketika saya (Takahashi) berada di Silicon Valley, saya secara rutin menghadiri acara "HAPPY DATA HOUR" di San Francisco. Para ilmuwan data, pengusaha, insinyur, dan VC akan berkumpul untuk bertukar informasi secara santai sambil menikmati 🍕 dan 🍺.

Visi MUDS - From Local Insights towards Global Impact

Musashino University Data Science (MUDS) beroperasi pada konsep inovatif "From Local Insights towards Global Impact," dimulai dari tantangan lokal dalam lingkungan alam dan sosial di seluruh dunia dan mengarah pada pemecahan masalah skala global. "Realitas" mengacu pada tantangan praktis dan nyata yang ada tepat di depan Anda. Fakta bahwa Anda telah memperhatikan tantangan-tantangan ini berarti Anda telah mengambil langkah pertama menuju melakukan penelitian kelas dunia di MUDS.

Inti dari pendidikan ini adalah "Pembelajaran Berbasis Pengalaman Penelitian." Mahasiswa menghadapi tantangan lokal di lokasi mereka sendiri sambil menggunakan pengetahuan, teknik, dan metodologi ilmu data melalui lingkungan pendidikan jarak jauh cyber-physical untuk secara kreatif mengatasi masalah-masalah ini. Mahasiswa internasional dan domestik terhubung melalui sistem pendidikan berbasis komunikasi, menantang baik masalah global maupun masalah lokal yang terjadi di seluruh dunia dari semester kedua tahun pertama hingga tahun ketiga. Perpaduan aktivitas penelitian praktis di lapangan dan memperdalam metode untuk memanfaatkan dan menyebarluaskan hasil penelitian di kampus fisik menumbuhkan talenta global sejati.
Di Fakultas Ilmu Data Universitas Musashino, kami berjanji bahwa Anda akan bersaing di panggung dunia sejak hari pertama. Dalam "Future Creation Project" yang dimulai di tahun pertama, mahasiswa menetapkan tema penelitian mereka sendiri dan mempresentasikannya kepada lebih dari 20 perusahaan. Memang, rekam jejak 193 presentasi konferensi oleh mahasiswa sarjana (38 di antaranya di konferensi internasional peer-reviewed) menunjukkan keseriusan pendidikan ini. Selanjutnya, kami berencana untuk mendirikan Fakultas Ilmu Data Internasional (MIDS) di Divisi Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh pada April 2026 untuk menyediakan peluang belajar yang lebih beragam.
Asia AI Institute terus memimpin dalam kolaborasi industri-akademik dan internasional untuk mewujudkan visi besar "berkontribusi pada kemajuan penelitian ilmiah AI global dan pengembangan manusia melalui kolaborasi antara Jepang, Asia, dan Eropa." Kemitraan dengan perusahaan-perusahaan terkemuka bukan hanya tentang dukungan penempatan kerja. Ini adalah bidang bagi Anda untuk mengatasi tantangan dunia nyata dan tumbuh sebagai profesional saat masih di sekolah.

Hey everyone! 2026年4月開設予定の武蔵野大学通信教育部国際データサイエンス学部（MIDS）では、毎月第2金曜日に「HAPPY DATA HOUR」と題したオープンゼミを開催しています。第4回目となる今回は、ついに海外進出！インドネシアの提携校PENSで開催します。日本を含む海外からはオンラインでのリモート参加も可能です。データサイエンスとAIに興味のある皆さんと、国境を越えた新たな発見と出会いの場を創っていきます。
なぜHAPPY DATA HOURなのか？
シリコンバレーで体験したカルチャーを世界へ。実は僕（高橋）がシリコンバレーにいた頃、サンフランシスコで定期的に開催されていた「HAPPY DATA HOUR」というイベントに参加していました。データサイエンティスト、起業家、エンジニア、VCが集まり、🍕と🍺を片手にカジュアルに情報交換する場。
このイベントは単なるネットワーキングの場を超えて、シリコンバレー独特の「オープンに学び合い、助け合う」カルチャーを醸成する重要な役割を果たしていました。初対面でも技術的な課題を相談し合い、転職情報を共有し、新しいプロダクトのフィードバックを求める。そんな文化的な土壌があるからこそ、シリコンバレーはイノベーションの聖地であり続けているのだと実感しました。
MIDSは単なる学部ではなく、データサイエンス×国際連携×産学連携を軸とした新しいエコシステムの創造を目指しています。学部設立前の今だからこそ、そのカルチャーの基盤となるコミュニティを育てていきたい。それがHAPPY DATA HOUR継続開催の想いです。
第4回のテーマと内容
テーマ：「From Local Insights towards Global Impact - 君のリアルが世界を変える」
武蔵野大学データサイエンス（MUDS）の革新的なコンセプト「From Local Insights towards Global Impact」を体現する特別回。東京の満員電車、商店街のシャッター通り、スラバヤの交通渋滞、地域のビーチで見た環境問題―これらは一見、異なる地域の固有課題に見えるが、実は世界中の多くの地域が同じような悩みを抱えている。
第1回で扱った「Actionable Metrics vs Vanity Metrics」、第2回での「データから行動への変換」、第3回での「AI時代のデータサイエンティスト」を踏まえ、今回は「君の目の前にあるリアルな課題が、どのように世界規模のインパクトを生み出すのか？」という問いに、日本とインドネシアを繋いで実践的に迫ります。

君のリアルが、世界を変える鍵になる。
武蔵野大学データサイエンス（MUDS）は「From Local Insights towards Global Impact」という革新的なコンセプトで、世界各地における自然および社会環境に関する局所的課題から出発し、地球規模の問題解決へと導く。リアルとは、君の目の前にある現実的な実課題のことだ。その課題に君が気付けたということは、MUDSで世界照準の研究をする第一歩を踏み出せていることを意味している。
東京の満員電車、キャンパスの友人の悩み事、商店街のシャッター通りから、旅先のビーチで見た環境破壊の実情まで―これらは君が日々直面している地域固有のリアルでありながら、実は地球規模で多くの地域が同様の状況を抱えている。君が今いる現場で感じているそのリアルな課題への洞察が、世界中の同じ悩みを持つ地域への解決策へと発展していく。
この教育の核心は「研究体験連動型学習」だ。学生は居住する現場において、そこで発生している局所的課題に直面しながら、サイバーフィジカルな遠隔教育環境を通じてデータサイエンスの知識と技術、方法論を活用し、創造的に課題に取り組む。海外学生と国内学生が通信系の教育システムで繋がり、1年次後期から3年次にかけて、国際的かつグローバルな課題と世界各地で起こっている局所的な課題の両方に挑戦する。現場での実践的な研究活動と、実キャンパスでの研究成果の活用・発信方法の深化―この二つが融合することで、真のグローバル人材が育つ。
武蔵野大学データサイエンス学部では、入学初日から世界を相手に勝負する―これが我々の約束だ。1年次から始まる「未来創造プロジェクト」では、君自身が研究テーマを設定し、20社を超える企業の前で発表する。実際、学部生の193件もの学会発表（うち38件は査読付き国際会議）という実績が、この教育の本気度を物語っている。さらに、2026年4月には通信教育部国際データサイエンス学部（MIDS）の設置を構想中で、より多様な学びの機会を提供していく予定だ。

Hey everyone! The International Data Science Department (MIDS) at Musashino University's Distance Learning Division, scheduled to open in April 2026, hosts an open seminar called "HAPPY DATA HOUR" every second Friday of the month. For our third session, we're excited to create another space for new discoveries and connections with everyone interested in data science and AI.
Why HAPPY DATA HOUR?
Bringing Silicon Valley culture to Ariake Campus. When I (Takahashi) was in Silicon Valley, I regularly participated in an event called "HAPPY DATA HOUR" held in San Francisco. It was a place where data scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, and VCs gathered to casually exchange information over 🍕 and 🍺.
This event went beyond mere networking and played a crucial role in fostering Silicon Valley's unique culture of "openly learning and helping each other." People would discuss technical challenges with strangers, share job opportunities, and seek feedback on new products. I realized that this cultural foundation is what keeps Silicon Valley as the holy land of innovation.
MIDS is not just another department, but aims to create a new ecosystem centered on data science × international collaboration × industry-academia partnership. Now, before the department's establishment, we want to nurture the community that will become the foundation of this culture. That's the motivation behind continuing HAPPY DATA HOUR.

Theme: "The Age of AI Democratization: Redefining Data Science Together"
With the advent of AI tools accessible to everyone like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, the landscape of data science has dramatically changed. Building on the 1st session's "Actionable Metrics vs Vanity Metrics" and the 2nd session's "From Data to Action," this time we'll tackle the fundamental question: "What is a data scientist in the AI era?"

Hey everyone! 2026年4月開設予定の武蔵野大学通信教育部国際データサイエンス学部（MIDS）では、毎月第2金曜日に「HAPPY DATA HOUR」と題したオープンゼミを開催しています。第3回目となる今回も、データサイエンスとAIに興味のある皆さんと一緒に、新たな発見と出会いの場を創っていきたいと思います。
なぜHAPPY DATA HOURなのか？
シリコンバレーで体験したカルチャーを有明キャンパスに。実は僕（高橋）がシリコンバレーにいた頃、サンフランシスコで定期的に開催されていた「HAPPY DATA HOUR」というイベントに参加していました。データサイエンティスト、起業家、エンジニア、VCが集まり、🍕と🍺を片手にカジュアルに情報交換する場。
このイベントは単なるネットワーキングの場を超えて、シリコンバレー独特の「オープンに学び合い、助け合う」カルチャーを醸成する重要な役割を果たしていました。初対面でも技術的な課題を相談し合い、転職情報を共有し、新しいプロダクトのフィードバックを求める。そんな文化的な土壌があるからこそ、シリコンバレーはイノベーションの聖地であり続けているのだと実感しました。
MIDSは単なる学部ではなく、データサイエンス×国際連携×産学連携を軸とした新しいエコシステムの創造を目指しています。学部設立前の今だからこそ、そのカルチャーの基盤となるコミュニティを育てていきたい。それがHAPPY DATA HOUR継続開催の想いです。
第3回のテーマと内容
テーマ：「AIの民主化時代：みんなでデータサイエンスを再定義する」

When I (Takahashi) was in Silicon Valley, I regularly participated in "HAPPY DATA HOUR" events in San Francisco. Data scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, and VCs would gather to casually exchange information over 🍕 and 🍺.

Hey everyone! 2026年4月開設予定の武蔵野大学通信教育部国際データサイエンス学部（MIDS）では、毎月第2金曜日に「HAPPY DATA HOUR」と題したオープンゼミを開催します。
なぜHAPPY DATA HOURなのか？
実は僕（高橋）がシリコンバレーにいた頃、サンフランシスコで定期的に開催されていた「HAPPY DATA HOUR」というイベントに参加していました。データサイエンティスト、起業家、エンジニア、VCが集まり、🍕と🍺を片手にカジュアルに情報交換する場。
このイベントは単なるネットワーキングの場を超えて、シリコンバレー独特の「オープンに学び合い、助け合う」カルチャーを醸成する重要な役割を果たしていました。初対面でも技術的な課題を相談し合い、転職情報を共有し、新しいプロダクトのフィードバックを求める。そんな文化的な土壌があるからこそ、シリコンバレーはイノベーションの聖地であり続けているのだと実感しました。そこで出会った人たちとの繋がりが、その後のキャリアや事業に大きな影響を与えました。

Hey everyone! The International Data Science Department (MIDS) at Musashino University's Distance Learning Division, scheduled to open in April 2026, will be hosting an open seminar called "HAPPY DATA HOUR" every second Friday of the month.
Why HAPPY DATA HOUR?
When I (Takahashi) was in Silicon Valley, I regularly participated in an event called "HAPPY DATA HOUR" held in San Francisco. It was a place where data scientists, entrepreneurs, engineers, and VCs gathered to casually exchange information over 🍕 and 🍺.
This event went beyond mere networking and played a crucial role in fostering Silicon Valley's unique culture of "openly learning and helping each other." People would discuss technical challenges with strangers, share job opportunities, and seek feedback on new products. I realized that this cultural foundation is what keeps Silicon Valley as the holy land of innovation. The connections I made there had a significant impact on my subsequent career and business ventures.
MIDS is not just another department, but aims to create a new ecosystem centered on data science × international collaboration × industry-academia partnership. Now, before the department's establishment, we want to nurture the community that will become the foundation of this culture. That's the motivation behind launching HAPPY DATA HOUR.

第1回MIDS国際シンポジウム

武蔵野大学（東京都江東区、学長：小西聖子）は、2025年6月24日～26日の3日間、有明キャンパスにて「第1回 MIDS国際シンポジウム」を開催いたします。本シンポジウムでは、2026年4月に設置構想中の通信教育部国際データサイエンス学部（MIDS）の海外提携大学8校とのダブルディグリープログラムのキックオフセレモニーを行うとともに、産学連携パートナー企業との国際共同研究の推進について発表いたします。
開催背景と意義
AI技術が急速に発展し、データサイエンスが社会のあらゆる領域に浸透する中、国際的な視野を持ち、理論と実践を兼ね備えた人材の育成が急務となっています。武蔵野大学は、グローバルな社会環境、自然環境の視点から、データサイエンスの社会的意義を捉え、アジア、ヨーロッパを中心として大学とのつながりを活かした国際連携を推進してきました。
本シンポジウムは、2026年4月に設置構想中の通信教育部国際データサイエンス学部（MIDS）のキックオフイベントとして、海外大学との教育連携、産学連携による研究推進、国際的な学術交流の場を提供することを目的としています。
国際連携の新たな展開
本シンポジウムでは、アジアの8大学とダブルディグリープログラムのキックオフを行い、学生が複数の大学で学位を取得できる革新的な教育プログラムを始動します。これにより、国際的な視野を持つデータサイエンス人材の育成を加速させます。
特筆すべきは、武蔵野大学アジアAI研究所（AAII）の研究員として海外大学の教員を迎え、産学連携パートナー企業との国際共同研究を推進する点です。この取り組みにより、日本企業の海外展開を支援し、アジアを結ぶデータサイエンス研究のハブとしての役割を果たします。参加大学の教員がAAII研究員として共同研究に参画することで、MIDSの学生も国際的な研究プロジェクトに参加する機会を得ることができます。
産学連携による実践的教育
シンポジウムでは、JR東日本、USEN WORK WELL、U-NEXT HOLDINGS、OZU（芸能事務所ASOBI SYSTEMの関連会社）などの産学連携パートナー企業が参加し、実務とアカデミックの融合による教育・研究の新たな可能性を提示します。
これらの企業は、それぞれの専門領域（交通、人事・総務、エンターテインメント、クリエイティブ）におけるAI活用の最前線で活動しており、その実践知をMIDSの教育に活かすとともに、大学の研究成果を実社会に実装する役割を担います。企業との共同研究にMIDSの学生が参画することで、理論と実践を兼ね備えた人材育成を実現します。
MIDSが目指す教育の特色
国際データサイエンス学部（MIDS）は、通信教育部として設置されることで、世界中どこからでもアクセス可能な教育環境を提供します。オンデマンド・オンライン形式を中心とした授業により、働きながら学ぶ社会人や、海外在住の学生にも門戸を開きます。
また、「AIビジネス活用プロフェッショナル育成プログラム」や科目等履修制度など、多様な学習ニーズに対応する教育プログラムを用意し、生涯学習の拠点としての役割も果たします。
清木康データサイエンス学部長は、「MIDSは、仏教精神を基盤とした『慈悲』と『智慧』の視点から、データサイエンスの社会的意義を捉え、日本・アジアの連携により世界のAI科学研究の進歩に貢献することを目指しています。本シンポジウムを通じて、国際的な教育・研究ネットワークを構築し、次世代のデータサイエンスリーダーを育成してまいります。特に、アジア仏教文化圏の大学との連携を深め、共通の価値観に基づいた教育・研究を推進することで、独自性のある国際プログラムを展開していきます」と述べています。

1st MIDS International Symposium
English | 日本語～Double Degree Program Kickoff Ceremony with 8 Universities from Asia, and Promotion of International Joint Research through Industry-Academia Collaboration～
Musashino University (Koto-ku, Tokyo; President: Seiko Konishi) will host "The 1st MIDS International Symposium" at the Ariake Campus from June 24-26, 2025. The symposium will feature a kickoff ceremony for double degree programs with 8 overseas partner universities for International Faculty of Data Science (MIDS), currently under establishment planning for April 2026, and will announce the promotion of international joint research with industry-academia partnership companies.
Background and Significance
As AI technology rapidly advances and data science permeates all areas of society, there is an urgent need to develop human resources with international perspectives who combine theory and practice. Based on the viewpoint of the global, social and natural environment, Musashino University understands the social significance of data science and has been promoting international collaboration by leveraging connections, particularly with the Asian universities.
This symposium serves as a kickoff event for International Faculty of Data Science (MIDS), currently under establishment planning for April 2026, providing a platform for educational collaboration with overseas universities, research promotion through industry-academia partnership, and international academic exchange.
New Developments in International Collaboration
At this symposium, we will sign double degree programs with 8 universities from Asia, launching an innovative educational program that enables students to obtain degrees from multiple universities. This will accelerate the development of data science professionals with international perspectives.
Notably, we will welcome faculty members from overseas universities as researchers at the Musashino University Asia AI Institute (AAII) to promote international joint research with industry-academia partner companies. This initiative will support Japanese companies' overseas expansion and establish our role as a hub for data science research connecting Asia. Through faculty participation as AAII researchers in joint research, MIDS students will also have opportunities to participate in international research projects.
Practical Education through Industry-Academia Collaboration
The symposium will feature participation from industry-academia partner companies including JR East, USEN WORK WELL, U-NEXT HOLDINGS, and OZU (affiliated company of talent agency ASOBI SYSTEM), presenting new possibilities for education and research through the fusion of practice and academia.
These companies are at the forefront of AI utilization in their respective fields (transportation, human resources/general affairs, entertainment, and creative industries). They will contribute their practical knowledge to MIDS education while playing a role in implementing university research outcomes in society. Through student participation in joint research with companies, we will realize human resource development that combines theory and practice.
MIDS Educational Features
International Faculty of Data Science (MIDS), being established as a correspondence education program, will provide an educational environment accessible from anywhere in the world. Through primarily on-demand and online classes, we open our doors to working professionals who study while employed and students residing overseas.
Additionally, we offer educational programs that address diverse learning needs, such as the "AI Business Application Professional Development Program" and the credit auditor system, serving as a center for lifelong learning.
Professor Yasushi Kiyoki, Dean of the School of Data Science, states: "Based on the viewpoint of the global, social and natural environment, MIDS aims to understand the social significance of data science and contribute to the advancement of global AI scientific research through collaboration among Japan, Asia. Through this symposium, we will build an international education and research network to develop next-generation data science leaders. In particular, by deepening collaboration with universities in Asia and promoting education and research based on shared values, we will develop unique international programs."
